Digital Storytelling PBL+ Foreign Languages (Spanish) El Monstruo de Colores
Students in second and third grade develop digital content in Spanish, design their own unique story books, journals, and puppet shows reflective of their personalities, learning needs and styles. Literature, art, puppetry and technology devices were incorporated in the class. The main goal is that students learn Spanish in a meaningful way by using the language across different disciplines and settings.
Project Phases
Week 1: Introduction of the story "El monstruo de colores".
Week 2: Design of puppets drafts and collaboration with Artist in residency starts.
Week 3: Students make 3D puppet prototypes. Start working on retelling the story ,practice introducing their puppets to their audience.
Week 4: Students retell and write the story organizing the events.
Week 5: Students work with iPads using My story app to illustrate and record their stories.
Week 6: Students take pictures of themselves as the characters, draw and design them using my story app or use the puppets they created in week 3 and start building their scripts in Spanish
Week 7: Students record their voices on my story app.
Week 8: Students present their work in small groups to their classmates and reflect about their projects.
Week 9: Students present their stories and puppet shows to their classmates. Recordings of their performances and digital books are showcased during PBL night.
